If there was one thing that stood out in Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints, it was the fact that the offense was terrible for the Las Vegas Raiders.
We had just finished talking about how this offense could potentially be one of the best in the league. They lost by one to the Kansas City Chiefs, who are probably the best offense in the league. Then they scored 38 on the Houston Texans.
However, they couldn't manage to score on the team that allows the second most points in the NFL. Not even a field goal. So what happened on Sunday?
"We obviously did not do anything good enough in that game," offensive coordinator Mick Lombardi said Tuesday. "It starts with us as coaches, doing a better job of getting players ready to go. Our level of urgency… wasn't what it should have been.
"I think overall as you go into the game, you are just trying to get positive plays, you know, and we didn't do a good enough job of starting drives with positive plays… We obviously had some penalties there that hurt us as well. Negative plays. All of the things that we talk about avoiding, you know we obviously did not do a good job of eliminating those."
A few things to take away from this.
First, we are now nine weeks into the season, so the whole preparation things should no longer be an excuse. You are coaches in the National Football League.
These coaches preached all week they would be prepared for anything the Saint threw at them, and they just were now.
Secondly, is there anything else you can tell us that went wrong? This seems to be the same exact answer every single time they lose. All five times they have lost, this is what some coach has said, whether it be McDaniels, Lombardi, or Graham.
So five times now you have lost because as a coach you did not have the team prepared?
The Raiders' coaches just continue to tell us the same old story, which is starting to make me think, they have no idea what is even wrong.
