The perfect move for the Las Vegas Raiders with the No. 7 overall pick is pretty clear — at least for one Raiders insider.

On the Las Vegas Raiders Insider Podcast this week, Sports Illustrated insider Hondo Carpenter said he believes the Raiders' ideal scenario will be to trade out of their top-10 pick.

“There are four top defenders… if they walk away with any of those four it was a great first round for the Raiders," Carpenter said. "But ideally, I think the best scenario for the Raiders, and I believe this is what they want to do, is trade out of seven.”

Don't expect a trade to come because the Raiders want to trade up. The cost of that is too steep, said Carpenter. Instead, the Raiders will most likely try to stockpile future picks and more opportunities to take swings at players.

“They have a lot of needs and this is a team that wants to build by the draft, they’re a team that will let the draft come to them. I know they said recently [that] they haven’t ruled out moving up," he said. "I don’t see any scenario that they move up higher than [pick] 5… if teams above [pick] 5 change their asking price, then I could see the Raiders [trading up]."

The draft is not an exact science. The system is imperfect and it a lot of what transpires comes down to the teams the Raiders aren't in control over. Either way, trading the pick seems like something that may happen for Las Vegas rather than selecting a player with the No. 7 pick.
