It's no secret some of the players on the Las Vegas Raiders haven't really been happy this year. You could see it all over everyone's face when Josh McDaniels was still in town, even in some of the wins. After the Raiders beat the Green Bay Packers, you could tell Davante Adams wasn't happy.
That's where it really started for Adams in terms of sharing how he felt. He said he didn't like how little he was getting the ball because the more he got it in this offense, the better for the team. And he wasn't wrong, but he didn't necessarily have to say it.
He wasn't happy after the Chicago Bears game and certainly wasn't happy after the Detroit Lions game. But we have seen a completely different Tae in these last two games. We have seen a rejuvenated guy who is happy to be wearing the silver and black.
Sure, some of that is because of the coaching change in that the Raiders brought in Antonio Pierce, a true player's coach. But some of it could also be because he now has a competent quarterback in Aidan O'Connell.
Let's be honest for a second – Jimmy Garoppolo was just not playing well. He was actually playing like one of the worst quarterbacks in the league. And Brian Hoyer was no better when he played against the Bears. Every time O'Connell has played, he has run the offense much smoother.
And from what it sounds like – O'Connell is impressing Adams already.
"As cool as the other side of the pillow," Adams said after the game in the locker room when asked how calm, cool, and collected O'Connell is.
We can see that in O'Connell, too. O'Connell never wavered when they were down the entire game until the fourth quarter. He always had a straight look on his face.
Now, we still have a lot to learn about the rookie. However, if he keeps it up, we could be having a completely different conversation during the 2024 NFL draft about what kind of player this team should take.
