Davante Adams knows the type of football coach Nathaniel Hackett is.
The time together dates back to Adams' time in Green Bay, where Hackett served as his offensive coordinator from 2019 to 2021. During Hackett's tenure, Adams enjoyed some of the best football of his career to date.
Adams and Hackett's history makes Sunday an even more intriguing matchup. Yes, the Las Vegas Raiders and Denver Broncos are two teams desperate for a win in the AFC West. But they also have the shared memories of a coach and a star receiver, who, undoubtedly want to beat each other come game time.
"You've just got to try to slow him down," Hackett told the media on Wednesday. He's a guy I've been with for the past three years. He's an amazing human being, somebody that's very dear to my heart, but at the same time, we've got to stop him. I know that he's a dynamic receiver on how he can get the ball vertically, intermediate, all over the place. He's a very smart football player. But we're going to have to do our best to contain him as much as we can."
Davante Adams is undoubtedly Derek Carr's No. 1 target. The two share a synergy that, if the offensive line holds, can result in this offense being one of the best in the NFL.
Game planning for the Raiders' star will be difficult. Hackett knows the Raiders want to get Adams the ball.
"It's a different system for sure, but I know they want to get him the ball. I mean why wouldn't you?" Hackett said. "He's a great player and great with the ball in his hands. He had an amazing catch in the red zone for a touchdown [last week]. Just shows how good he is even when he's contested. And like I said, it's going to be a great challenge for our defense, and they're getting up for it."
Come Sunday, Adams and Hackett will face off for the first time since both were in Green Bay.
