The Las Vegas Raiders just got, got, essentially.

They now have their general manager in John Spytek, the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers assistant general manager, and Pete Carroll as head coach, the former head coach of the Seattle Seahawks. Now, they have to fill out everything else. The two have already gotten started by retaining defensive coordinator Patrick Graham and defensive line coach Rob Leonard.

So, what's next? Well, they should probably address the offensive side of the ball. Luckily, that's exactly what they're doing. They still need an offensive coordinator, and all of the positions below that position, like position coaches and passing game coordinator. They just tried to get one from their arch-rival but failed due to some NFL rules.

Raiders tried to interview Chargers' Sanjay Lal

According to ESPN NFL Insider and analyst Jeremy Fowler, the Raiders tried to interview Lal for a pass-game coordinator/receivers coach role, but the Chargers blocked it due to an NFL rule that allows teams to block lateral moves, considering Lal was hired last February.

Sanjay Lal is the wide receivers coach for the Los Angeles Chargers. He played college football at UCLA and the University of Washington, where he won a national championship in 1991. His coaching career in the NFL started in 2007 with the Oakland Raiders, and since then, he has worked with several teams including the New York Jets, Buffalo Bills, Indianapolis Colts, Dallas Cowboys, Seattle Seahawks, and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Lal has a reputation for developing wide receivers, significantly impacting DK Metcalf's career while with the Seahawks. He joined the Chargers in February 2024 after serving as the pass-game coordinator and wide receivers coach for the Seahawks. His current task is to improve the Chargers' young receiving group post the exit of key players Keenan Allen and Mike Williams.

This would have been a great move for the Raiders.
