When that final whistle blows in Week 18, and let's say in this scenario, the most likely one, that the Las Vegas Raiders don't make the playoffs, they will have to find a new head coach. Well, that's what can happen. While searching for a new general manager as well, the Raiders could very well hire Champ Kelly and Antonio Pierce as their next long-term guys. I mean, they are making their own case for the job.

But let's say they don't. Let's say that Pierce does not catch Mark Davis' attention enough to bring him back as the head honcho. Even if they don't, they still have several options in 2024 that could all be great hires. There are also some that would be bad hires. Then, there are guys that we really don't know would be a good or bad hire.

That's the category that Jim Harbaugh falls in. The former San Francisco 49ers head coach and now Michigan head coach is a name some Raiders fans cannot stop throwing out there. I get it; the name is polarizing. Fans are ready to be relevant again. But that doesn't always mean he will be a good coach. It doesn't mean he will be a bad one, either.

While Raiders fans like him and want him, the feelings may not be mutual, though.

Raiders getting Harbaugh could be a longshot

Let's just be real for a second – the Raiders will not be the most desirable job when the coaching cycle opens in 2024. There are other places that may be more desirable. One of those places is the Raiders' rival, the Los Angeles Chargers, assuming they fire Brandon Staley.

They have a nice stadium and nice weather like the Raiders do, but they are also in the bigger market, with an established quarterback. They have star power and down the roster, whereas the Raiders may have just two-star players entering 2024.

Not to mention, Mike Greenberg of ESPN, who covered Harbaugh when he played for the Chicago Bears long ago, is a good friend of Harbaugh's. He said on the Pat McAfee show on Monday that Harbaugh loves Herbert.

There aren't really any connections to Harbaugh within the Raiders organization. In fact, there aren't even any former Michigan players on the current Raiders' team. So, hiring Harbaugh may be a long shot.
