We haven't seen a Las Vegas Raiders team as disciplined as the one we saw last Saturday when the Kansas City Chiefs beat them 31-17. That is a true, fair, but worthless statement, in this case, anyway.
How many times have we seen the Raiders win games where they weren't disciplined? All the time. Then, they lose the one game they are disciplined in, maybe the best-disciplined game they have played in the last two years. Funny how that works, right?
This team all season, under Antonio Pierce but mostly under Josh McDaniels, has been very undisciplined. Sometimes, that has been the reason they lost a game. On Sunday against the Chiefs, it's apparent that was not the reason, as they accomplished a feat for the first time in 21 years that no one wants to accomplish.
Here is what Josh Dubow from the Associated Press said about the Raiders game on Sunday:
Raiders were the first team to have 0 penalties and 0 turnovers in a game since the Bucs in a 38-10 win over the Packers in 2020. The last team to lose a game with/ 0 penalties and 0 turnovers was the Jaguars in 25-23 L to Steelers on 12/1/2002
In other words, that basically means the Raiders were disciplined but didn't have the talent, skill, or execution to finish the game.
They went up 14-0 on the Chiefs, and it felt like the Raider's offense had finally found its groove. Everything was working. The run game had the big 50+ yard run by Josh Jacobs. Aidan O'Connell played his best game as a rookie, fitting the ball into tight windows and hitting Adams and Meyers deep, and the offensive line blocked well.
After that, everything changed. That's when it came down to execution. The Raiders just simply got outplayed.
