It's not a secret that the way things ended between Darren Waller and the Las Vegas Raiders was a bit messy. There was definitely some drama there, and it was from both sides.
Some people felt that Waller wasn't a great leader or maybe a bit immature during his last season in Las Vegas. And, while he was a bit, he is somewhere else now.
Obviously, once a Raider, always a Raider, so you hope nothing but the best for him. It sounds like he is already becoming something better than what he was in Vegas when it comes to his personality.
"Something I learned being captain for the first time was you don't have to be better than yourself," Waller said in the Giants locker room. "It's about finding your own leadership style, and I feel like it's still unfolding for me even back then. It was still like a feeling-out process. Like, do I say a lot more? Do I do different things?
"So now for me, it's, I feel more comfortable in how I eat and say things and sometimes also lead by example, you encouraging guys when they may be in a rut, or things may not be clicking just being there for them, and some people turn it back on and be like what's going on with them, but try to be there for people. And that's kind of one of my."
Waller has a chance to go back to the tight end he was a few years ago. He is in a Giants offense that doesn't have a ton of weapons outside of their running back, so he may see the ball a lot. You hope nothing but the best for him and hope he continues to develop.
Giants trade with Raiders for Pro Bowl TE Darren Waller
A move fit for the big apple.
