NFL insider says Raiders could be players for up-and-coming cornerback
The Las Vegas Raiders need exactly that for 2023.
The Las Vegas Raiders need a ton of help in the secondary, a unit that has Nate Hobbs, and that's really it when talking about great players. Sure, the defense as a whole needs some work even though it has some good players, but the biggest flaw on that side of the ball is the secondary.
Luckily, they have a ton of money to spend in free agency, and a top pick in the draft. With all of the Aaron Rodgers, and Anthony Richardson being drafted by Las Vegas rumors swirling around, it would make sense that they use free agency to go get some great secondary players.
One of those guys is Cameron Sutton, an up-and-coming cornerback who is being predicted to have interest from the Raiders.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler had a lot to say about Sutton and the interest he is drawing in free agency.
Here's another name to keep a close eye on: Cameron Sutton. The Pittsburgh corner just finished a two-year, $9 million deal but will be in a much higher tier this time. His name is circulating right now at the cornerback spot. Could see some NFC North action here — the Vikings or Lions make sense. Raiders, too.
The Raiders could use a guy that can pair up with Hobbs on the outside, and Sutton could be that, and some. He will be entering his seventh season, so he is a veteran. The Raiders could not only use a guy who knows how to play ball but a guy who has seen a lot at the position.
Sutton has eight interceptions and 38 pass deflections in his six seasons. He has started 31 games over the last two years with the Steelers and is looking for a new deal now.
According to Spotrac, Sutton's projected market value is $7.4 million annually, something that is easily doable for the Raiders. And, it would instantly be an improvement over last year's secondary.
The Raiders should pursue Sutton for sure.
