The Las Vegas Raiders have been really, really bad at drafting for a while now. As things currently look, and this is a complete overreaction on my part, things could be turning around in that department.
The last regime couldn't get a pick right other than Maxx Crosby and Josh Jacobs. Every other first-rounder is no longer on the team.
General manager Dave Ziegler and the rest of the front office feel confident about this class.
"We are excited about what these guys have done over the last few months," assistant general manager Champ Kelly told the media. "But also, no different than we are excited about the veteran guys that are here as well.
"I think we've worked on building a roster where there's competition at every position, at every level, and I think we're seeing that kind of come to fruition now. So, just exciting for the time being."
The Raiders started the draft with 12 picks and turned that into nine players. Most of those players will make the 53-man roster, only building their future to be greater.
It would appear they may have found their future quarterback, too, in Aidan O'Connell, who has been stellar. But he isn't the only player they are invested in, and the rookie class as a whole has a ton of potential, too.
"I would love to see the young players that we've invested in continue to grow, continue to improve throughout the season where you're getting to the end of the season, and you have a lot of guys that have contributed to a winning season," GM Dave Ziegler said. "That's really what we're focused on and how we're going to gauge it."
A successful season for the Raiders is not only showing improvements when it comes to the record but also getting this young core where they need to be. They have to be set up to be in a position to succeed for a long time. If the rookies, and even the guys from last season who were rookies, can develop and show they can be the future, that is a success.
How a rookie may play his way into a starting role for the Las Vegas Raiders
The Las Vegas Raiders have an electric offense in 2022. They were exciting last season, but the addition of WR Davante Adams only elevates the hype. The running back position is stirring a lot of discussion, though. Veteran Josh Jacobs has held down the role for years, but rookie Zamir White is pushing for a […]
