It seems like every single day we get closer and closer to the Las Vegas Raiders finally getting their Super Bowl-caliber quarterback. Three months ago we didn't know Matthew Stafford would be an option, but here we are.
The Los Angeles Rams have given Stafford the opportunity to seek a trade while he is also in search of a new contract. The Raiders just so happen to be in search of a new quarterback with a ton of money to give and draft capital to trade. So, the two sides must have some interest, right?
There have been reports that the Raiders are very interested and actually want to get the trade done because they're not too confident in this rookie QB class coming in, and they are somewhat "lukewarm," as a reporter stated, on Minnesota Vikings QB Sam Darnold.
Now, there is a new update, and all of the Raiders fans who are in favor of trading for Stafford will love the news.
Raiders getting closer to trading for Matthew Stafford
According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Las Vegas Raiders and the New York Giants have offers in place for Matthew Stafford, which appear to be somewhere in the range of a two-year deal worth $100 million, which would get him his $50 million a year that he wants. There have also been reports that Stafford and his wife prefer Las Vegas over New York. And, when you feel the weather in Vegas, who can blame them?
A two-year deal would be almost perfect. You can avoid drafting a rookie quarterback this offseason because the class is bad, and you can focus on getting one next year in a great QB class, all while having a guy to sit behind Stafford for a year, which Tom Brady is very high on in general, the idea of rookie QBs sitting a year.
It makes sense, and with the salary cap now bigger, the Raiders have so much cap space to use. They need a quarterback if they want to turn this thing around.
2025 could see the Las Vegas Raiders finally making the right choice in the NFL Draft
The Raiders would do that in a heartbeat.
