The Las Vegas Raiders' newest addition is bringing something other than his game to training camp practice.
It hasn't been the perfect start to training camp that I'm sure Marcus Peters would have liked, as he has been beaten by Davante Adams a few times in one on ones, but then again, who doesn't get beaten by the best receiver in the NFL?
Then you also have to factor in that Peters didn't have any OTAs or team workouts before camp, and he started a few days later. However, Peters is going to help this team a ton, and I think everyone can see that.
We know about the skill level he will bring and the fact that he has done it at the highest level for a long time. Peters has competed on some very good defenses with good secondaries for a while in this league. But he is also bringing something else that head coach Josh McDaniels loves.
"[H]e's [Peters] got a great spirit about him," McDaniels told reporters on Sunday. "He's a football player through and through. He really understands the game at an elite level, really a smart player. The thing you don't know until you work with somebody is how much they're willing to offer other players, other younger people on their side of the ball or on the other side.
"And you see Marcus out there, he's willing to share, and he's really trying to help anybody that he can, along with the fact that he's trying to reestablish his level of performance year after year after year. You don't get to carry anything over. You see him out there competing against the best guys we've got, and he's excited to do that daily. But just really, really excited about him and the things he does to help you play good defense, and you see those every day."
Peters is bringing the energy and spirit to the secondary that has desperately needed that. Let's be honest; that was the worst unit on the team last season. The secondary was one that was far below average in the league.
With what they have brought on and what Peters will bring, they could be average or even better than that. The spirit, energy, and experience are enough to make this defense better than it was. I think head coach Josh McDaniels knows that too.
Raiders Marcus Peters just dropped a line that will instantly have fans on his side
He really is the best.
