The Las Vegas Raiders now have their 53-man roster heading into 2023.
To get here, they had to cut down from 90 players to 53.
Here is how the roster looks right now, including the guys who have been cut:
Note: Players with one asterisk (*) represent 2023 draft picks and players with double asterisks (**) represent 2023 undrafted free agents.
Quarterback (3)
IN: Jimmy Garoppolo, Aidan O'Connell*, Brian Hoyer
OUT: Chase Garbers
The Raiders do plan on bringing Garbers back to the practice squad if he clears waivers. Last year he was on the Raiders practice squad.
Running Back (4)
IN: Josh Jacobs, Zamir White, Ameer Abdullah, Brandon Bolden
OUT: Brittain Brown, Damien Williams, Sincere McCormick, Darwin Thompson
Josh Jacobs is back, and after signing a one-year deal for $12 million, fans have to be excited. This running back room looks exactly like it did last season.
Fullback (1)
IN: Jakob Johnson
OUT: N/A
The Raiders are one of the few teams left in the NFL that uses a fullback, and they love Johnson. He's the only one on the roster.
Wide Receiver (6)
IN: Davante Adams, Jakobi Meyers, Hunter Renfrow, Tre Tucker*, Deandre Carter, Kristian Wilkerson
OUT: Keelan Cole Sr., Cam Sims, Phillip Dorsett, Chris Lacy, Isaiah Zuber
The first two receivers to be cut were Lacy and Zuber, then Cole and Dorsett followed. The Raiders plan on keeping six receivers. Last year their initial 53-man had five receivers.
Tight End (3)
IN: Michael Mayer*, Austin Hooper, Jesper Horsted
OUT: Jacob Hollister, John Samuel Shenker**, Cole Fotheringham
Mayer is easily the TE2 after what we have seen in the preseason. The potential is there, but he still has a lot of development to do. Hooper is the veteran on the squad, and Horsted has had a great training camp. The Tight end room looks fine.
Offensive line (7)
IN: Kolton Miller, Dylan Parham, Andre James, Jermaine Eluemunor, Thayer Munford Jr., Greg Van Roten, Justin Herron
OUT: Brandon Parker, Hroniss Grasu, Netane Muti, Vitaliy Gurman, McClendon Curtis**, Alex Bars
Alex Bars was a starter last season and started 14 games for the Raiders. Not only did he lose his starting job, but he also lost a roster spot.
Defensive Line (9)
IN: Maxx Crosby, Bilal Nichols, Jerry Tillery, Chandler Jones, Tyree Wilson*, Byron Young*, Malcolm Koonce, Nesta Jade Silvera*, John Jenkins
OUT: Adam Butler, Adam Plant**, George Tarlas**, David Agoha**, Doug Costin, Isaac Rochell, Matthew Butler
Some surprising names made this list, and some surprising names were cut, like Matthew Butler.
Linebacker (4)
IN: Divine Deablo, Robert Spillane, Luke Masterson, Curtis Bolton
OUT: Darien Butler, Kana’i Mauga, Drake Thomas**, Isaac Darkangelo, Amari Burney
Divine Deablo is the leader of the linebacker unit. Spillane is the second guy, but we could see some movement. Bolton is a sure guy and was always going to make the roster because of his special teams ability.
Cornerback (5)
IN: Marcus Peters, Jakorian Bennett*, Nate Hobbs, David Long Jr., Amik Robertson
OUT: Tyler Hall, Brandon Facyson, Sam Webb, Ike Brown, Bryce Cosby, Azizi Hearn**, Jordan Perryman**, Duke Shelley
The Raiders official 2023 cornerback room is much better than it was in 2022.
Safety (5)
IN: Marcus Epps, Tre’von Moehrig, Chris Smith II*, Roderic Teamer, Isaiah Pola-Mao
OUT: Jaquan Johnson, Jaydon Grant**
The safety room seems a lot better than it was last season. Look for the Raiders to add one of these safeties to their 16-man practice squad.
Special Teams (3)
IN: Daniel Carlson (K), A.J. Cole (P), Jacob Bobenmoyer (LS)
OUT: N/A
This one is pretty obvious, as the Raiders have one of the best kickers in the league and one of the best punters in the league. Those two aren't going anywhere.
The Raiders roster is here, which means that we can now focus on who will make the 16-man practice squad.
Josh Jacobs’ recent comments should excite Raiders’ fans for 2023
The Las Vegas Raiders have some tough decision to make in their offseason, whether it be about their former franchise quarterback Derek Carr, their next franchise quarterback that we don’t yet know, or their franchise running back Josh Jacobs. Not to mention, they have a lot of drama currently surrounding them. The Carr drama is […]
