The Las Vegas Raiders had a starter accomplish something he hadn't ever done in his entire career on the very first offensive drive of the game for the Raiders. And it was in dramatic fashion, as all of the energy and vibes were flowing for the silver and black.
The Raider's offense, on paper, looks more than solid, but as we know, they have struggled more than maybe any other offense in the league this year. They have yet to score 20 points as an offense, even with guys like Davante Adams and Josh Jacobs on the team.
However, after firing Josh McDaniels and Mick Lombardi and giving former QB coach Bo Hardegree the nod as the offensive coordinator, the offense came out firing on the first offensive possession. The way they did it, though, was by having Jakobi Meyers do something for the first time in his entire career.
Here is what the Raiders' PR team tweeted out after Meyers big touchdown on the first drive:
WR Jakobi Meyers takes the sweep 17 yards for a touchdown, giving the Raiders a 7-0 lead, finishing off a 6-play, 67-yard scoring drive. Meyers notches the longest run of his career and his first career rushing touchdown.
Meyers has been great for the Raiders this year, but mostly in spurts. When the ball is thrown his way, he usually catches it. However, the consistency between him and Davante Adams, in which who gets the ball each game, has been more than shaky.
This time, Meyers didn't even need to catch the ball to score a touchdown. Instead, he takes the jet sweep play, one that we have seen multiple times this year, but with Tre Tucker and Deandre Carter instead in obvious play-call situations. This one was with Meyers, which caught everyone off guard.
