It is no secret that the Las Vegas Raiders have a big issue, maybe the biggest issue you can have on a team, and they have had it for years and years, too. They need a quarterback, but most importantly, they need a quarter that can win them football games, take them to the postseason, and really just be a franchise guy. If we're being honest, they haven't had that in nearly 20 years.
And, after having a terrible season last year with three pretty bad quarterbacks all getting starts and playing time, the Raiders are going to be picking at No. 6 in the 2025 NFL Draft. But, there are really two, maybe three, starting-level quarterbacks in this draft. And those top two could be gone by the time the Raiders pick at No. 6.
So they need to look into the free agency market and go the veteran route by possibly trading, too. There are two guys being linked to the Raiders Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold and Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford. But, is that the avenue the Raiders want to go?
"Not to be kind of the cliche here but, any and every avenue where we can find a quarterback we are going to explore," Raiders' new general manager John Spytek said at the Combine. "Obviously there are free agents, we have some guys in the building that we want to give an opportunity to compete. Working with coach and with Chip, we are just trying to find as many guys as we can to load that room up and have some competition there."
And that could honestly mean doing both things. Who says that getting Stafford via trade and then drafting Sheduer Sanders to sit behind him for a year or two like a Green Bay Packers Jordan Love situation, would be a bad thing? It wouldn't be. But, no matter what they do, the Raiders have to figure out a way to fix the issue.
Until they have a competent QB on their roster, they won't be competing for the playoffs anytime soon. It seems that Spytek understands that, too.
