The Las Vegas Raiders made a risky decision before their preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams, and it could have cost them a lot.
It's no secret that Jimmy Garoppolo is one of the more injury-prone players in the league, especially one of the more injury-prone quarterbacks. Garoppolo seems to deal with an injury every year, which usually keeps him from playing every game.
That is a huge reason some of Raider Nation was iffy on the decision to sign him. There is no question he can be a winning quarterback, as he has done before; the question is can he stay on the field?
He has been recovering from the foot injury that he got last season, which is why he missed all of the offseason workouts, besides training camp, where he also started late.
With his history and the injury he just recently came off of, the Raiders made a risky decision to start him in the second preseason game.
"This was always the game we kind of had earmarked for him based on, you know, what we were doing to get him out there with his guys and, you know, let him have an opportunity to play," Josh McDaniels said to the media after the game. "So, but he's definitely progressing and continuing to improve as our group continues to work around it. And, you know, again, this will be another big week this week."
Had Garoppolo gotten hurt, it could have gotten really bad for the Raiders. But luckily, Garoppolo didn't get hurt and actually looked good when he did play.
Garoppolo finished 4/4 for 39 yards passing and orchestrated a touchdown on his one-and-only drive. And the offense looked beautiful. Hopefully, we get to see that for the rest of the season.
