Las Vegas Raiders made a great depth signing that may fly under the radar a bit for 2025

The Raiders have a decent cornerback room with Jakorian Bennett as the headliner. Seeing how he played before he got hurt tells me he may be the CB1 on the year. Of course, there is then Jack Jones, Decamerion Richardson, Stokes, M.J. Devonshire, Kyu Blu Kelly, and Sam Webb. all of those guys are young for the most part. They needed a veteran.
And they went and got one.
According to Jordan Schultz, the Raiders went and grabbed a veteran that all of those young guys in the room were familiar with. They plan to re-sign Darnay Holmes, the former New York Giants CB who signed with the Raiders last season.
Holmes comes from a football family—his dad, Darick Holmes, played in the NFL. Holmes started his NFL career with the Giants from 2020 to 2023. As a rookie, he played 12 games, starting five, and didn’t allow a touchdown in coverage. He grabbed his first interception against Russell Wilson in a win over the Seattle Seahawks. In four years with New York, he played 54 games, started 11, and had 107 tackles, four interceptions, and two forced fumbles, mostly as a nickel corner and on special teams. Injuries, like a rib fracture in 2021, slowed him at times. So, there were times when it felt like Holmes could really be something special.
Unfortunately for him, but fortunately for the Raiders because it worked out last year at times, he has been forced into a veteran role in the league now. And, that's okay. If that's what it takes to stay in the league, that's what you have to do. And, with the chances that the Raiders could draft another CB, it's important to have a veteran. He is the second oldest CB in the room behind Jack Jones, who honestly, doesn't feel like he's 27.
This was an underrated depth singing that may end up coming in handy later in the season.
