Las Vegas Raiders make a surprising staff decision just weeks before they need the guy the most

The Las Vegas Raiders are getting ready for the NFL Combine in a few weeks, and that means they will need all hands on deck. Now, every coach, front office member, scout, and anyone else you can think of will tell you the testing at the combine doesn't really matter to them, but it does.
That, and the interviews they get with some of these players are very important to what they end up doing on draft night in April. So, yes, they do need all hands on deck. Anyone who has a say in what the roster looks like, evaluates talent, and anything of that nature, needs to be at the NFL Combine.
That includes guys like the assistant general manager and general manager, who both evaluate talent and have a say in what the roster looks like. The Raiders, though, could be without their assistant GM at the 2025 NFL Combine.
Now, they still have some time to decide what they will do, but as things currently stand, with the recent news, they won't have one there.
Raiders part ways with assistant general manager Champ Kelly
Champ Kelly was the Raiders assistant general manager, and even filled in as the interim GM when Dave Ziegler was fired. He was interviewed for the Raiders GM job last offseason when they hired Tom Telesco and instead stayed on as assistant GM.
This offseason he interviewed for the Jacksonville Jaguars general manager job, and drew interest from other teams as well about adding him to their staff. He's been a huge part of what the Raiders have done the last few years, which may not be an entirely good thing, but the Raiders valued him.
On Monday, they moved on from Kelly, with this new regime they likely just decided that it was best for both sides. Now they have 10 days to hire someone at the position to help with the combine.
That may not get done, but only time will tell.
Las Vegas Raiders’ John Spytek and Pete Carroll have decided to keep some continuity on the staff for 2025
The Raiders will need that, too.
