Making NFL history is always a special event for any team.
For the Las Vegas Raiders, they made some unfortunate history in their loss to the san Francisco 49ers in Week 17.
The Raiders' second half miscues have been heavily discussed all season. On Sunday, disaster struck for them once again after they held a lead at halftime.
The Raiders started the game on fire. The offense was firing on all cylinders with Jarrett Stidham at quarterback. His mobility and decisiveness made a massive difference for the Raiders. Overall, the passing game was dominant.
The Raiders led 17-14 at halftime. They extended that lead in the second half to double digits, but their achilles heel was struck again. Las Vegas couldn't hold that lead.
The loss was their fifth of the season in a game when they held a 10+ point lead in the second half. The Raiders are the first team in league history to do that.
The statistic is pretty mind boggling.
You can blame multiple aspects of Las Vegas' team. Ultimately, a coaching staff cannot allow five double digit second half leads to disappear. The Raiders lost these games in unique fashions. They weren't all the same.
The performance against the 49ers is a bit of an outlier, though.
The offense looked the best that it has all year. Through the air, Stidham and his receivers played great.
The unit was much more balanced, and that took some pressure off of star running back Josh Jacobs. That being said, the defensive struggles are still a concern.
They are the biggest area of concern for the Raiders heading into the off-season outside of QB. The pass rush looks dominant some weeks, but the secondary doesn't give them enough time to get home right now. The depth just isn't there.
The Raiders need to address their problems as soon as possible in order to avoid making more negative history once again next season.
