The Las Vegas Raiders may be in play for a quarterback in round one for the NFL Draft. We'll learn more about that in the next couple of months. If they get a QB before the draft, defense will be highly valued early in the draft for the Raiders.
The unit struggled mightily last season, and the roster is extremely thin. Especially in the secondary, the Raiders need more upside and talent at cornerback.
They play an aggressive type of defense that needs physically dominant defensive backs. Luckily, there's a top cornerback in this year's class that would make a lot of sense for Las Vegas.
He's actually the son of a former NFL player, too.
That CB is Joey Porter Jr. from Penn State.
According to Bleacher Report, Porter Jr. is the perfect fit for the Raiders defense. They listed LV as the ideal landing spot for the former Nittany Lion.
“The cornerback’s physical and aggressive style isn’t for everybody. He’s best suited going to a team that will let him play a lot of press coverage.
He could have a bit of a learning curve as he moves away from relying so much on his hands, which could cause him to get called for a lot of penalties early on.
The Raiders would make sense as a destination for Porter.
They played the ninth-highest rate of man coverage despite dealing with injuries at cornerback all season.”
Nate Hobbs has been a very solid player for the Raiders, but they need another impact cornerback.
Porter Jr. would provide that and plenty more. He is projected to go in the first half of the first round, and he could be the first cornerback to be selected.
His physicality, sticky man coverage, and competitive nature would make a massive difference for the Raiders for years to come.
