It's been 229 days since Josh Jacobs was last under contract as a part of the Las Vegas Raiders. At the moment, he technically isn't because he didn't sign his franchise tag.
The Raiders also haven't offered Jacobs a one-year deal higher than the tag, either, similar to what the New York Giants did with Saquon Barkley.
Jacobs is at home right now, as the Raiders 2023 training camp is closing. With optimism that he will be there in Week 1 against the Denver Broncos, General Manager Dave Ziegler and Assistant GM Champ Kelly gave an update. Well, kind of.
"Nothing new to add right now on that, so we'll just keep pushing forward," Ziegler said to reporters on Thursday.
Now, they could just not be telling the whole story and actually have some new information on the situation. If not, his isn't a great look.
The Kansas City Chiefs are also going through a contract holdout at the moment with Chris Jones; only his is for an extension, and he isn't playing on the franchise tag. However, Jones has tweeted out that he could be out until Week 8.
If Jacobs does that, which is a possibility, the Raiders will have issues. By that time, they will be without one of the best running backs in the league for half the season. By then, their season could already be over in terms of staying in contention.
The fact they haven't heard anything new is bad because that would mean the communication has stopped. The Raiders have Zamir White as the guy who would start if Jacobs isn't in town by Week 1. White has had a great training camp, but he isn't Jacobs.
If it's the raiders that are stopping communication, they need to get that fixed as soon as possible. If it's Jacobs, there is nothing they can really do. Jacobs will only start to lose money.
