The Las Vegas Raiders have an offense in place with this new regime that can be very successful, we just didn't get to see that last season because it wasn't mastered yet. This next season, I think we could see a glimpse of exactly how dominant the offense can be.
A big reason why has a ton to do with one of, well two of actually, the Raiders offseason additions they made in free agency. They went and got quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and wide receiver Jakobi Meyers, two guys who have been in the system before.
Sure, everyone is calling the Raiders the "New England Raiders' or the "Las Vegas Patriots" to joke at the fact that they are similar in regimes and have players from the Patriots. But, there is a reason McDaniels wants to do that – because it works.
The system is from the Patriots dynasty with Tom Brady. Sure, he was a different breed, and the greatest to ever do it, but it's a system that if you have the right pieces and it's executed, anyone can do it. It just takes time.
Now the offense has two guys that have run it a ton before. Sure, Jimmy Garoppolo isn't the best quarterback in the world, but he is good at his role. He is a great game manager, and he knows how to run a system. In fact, now that he is back in this system, I think we will see him be better than we are used to.
One NFL expert thinks the same.
"One thing that was interesting talking to Jimmy was like, how excited he was to have control back," Albert Breer said on the Locked On Raiders Podcast. "…In the McDaniels offense, the quarterback controls everything the quarterback makes the mike call, the quarterback has the protections, the quarterback adjusts routes, and the quarterback does all of that. And I think it's just interesting talking to Jimmy about that, like how excited he is to go back to having a little bit more control and he thinks it's going to make him a better player.
"Garoppolo is a little more comfortable with it, of course, because Jimmy has spent almost four years running that offense, learning that offense. I think like having ownership over all of those things. I think the hope is that that winds up opening things up for Davante Adams and Jakobi Meyers and Hunter and like Josh Jacobs and creates an environment where those guys are more consistently going to be in a position to get open and to succeed in the passing game."
The Raiders' offense has elite potential, especially with the guys they have on it. They have the best receiver in the game, and three guys behind him that could be a number two on any other team. They are loaded there.
Let's not forget they have the best running back in the league from last season in Josh Jacobs, and they just went and got Austin Hooper. This team can be super fun to watch, they just have to execute.
