In the 2023 NFL Draft, the Raiders wanted to take a quarterback. Unfortunately, the cards did not fall their way, and they couldn't take a quarterback, but instead a defensive stud in Tyree Wilson. The only thing was that Wilson had a lingering injury and has still been dealing with it.
The rookie defensive end out of Texas Tech has yet to play at training camp yet. According to general manager Dave Ziegler, he is still rehabbing his foot injury but is still in the classroom learning.
But we recently got some great news about the rookie, and the Raiders' future may just be getting kicked off soon.
According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, Wilson could be practicing soon.
I'd expect to see first-round pick Tyree Wilson return to the practice field at some point over the next two weeks. Wilson is recovering from offseason foot surgery after suffering a pretty serious injury at the end of his time at Texas Tech. Wilson will provide versatility and depth to the Raiders defensive line, which has struggled the last few years. Maxx Crosby can't do it all, even though he has the last few years; it isn't a good recipe for success on that side of the ball.
It was time to bolster the pass rush, and Wilson, who was one of the best in college football a year ago, can do that when healthy. He is the future of the Raiders, or he wouldn't have been drafted seventh overall.
