The Las Vegas Raiders were one step closer to having a huge favor done for them by the NFL schedule makers before everything fell through.
This upcoming season is one that the Raiders should be better in. Their offense is going to be more intact now that players know the system and the additions they made came from the system. And, the whole unit as a whole, the coaching staff, front office, and everything on paper, is going to be together now after a full first year.
So, honestly, the only way to go is up, and that's what will happen. But, we still don't know how much they will get better. We do know that this team will have some flash, because they are the Raiders, and they have a lot of big-name star players on their team, which is another reason they were almost the team that opened up the season on Thursday night.
"Yeah, we looked at probably all of their [Kansas City] home opponents at some point as potential kickoff game options and there were good arguments literally for every single one," NFL schedule maker Mike North told Adam Schefter.
"Honestly, when we first started way back in February, there was definitely a school of thought that we should play Philly. The Super Bowl, it just ended. What a fun game. Let's keep going, right? Give Philly the ball, call it 38-35, and let's pick up where we left off. The other one that really came down to the wire was Vegas. That was the kickoff game on the finalist that did not win."
Why is this a huge favor the schedule makers almost did for the Raiders? Well, getting a Thursday game to start the season means a big gap between Week 1 and Week 2. It also means they are also one of two teams playing to start the season up, so all eyes would literally be on the silver and black.
Not to mention the Raiders would get to play the Chiefs early in the season, which means getting that cold game in Kansas City out of the way, and getting a fully healthy Chiefs team out of the way too.
There are just so many ways that would have benefited the Raiders. Instead, they are stuck with not having a home game until Week 3, which will be the first time we get to see the home of Super Bowl 58.
