Raiders rank highly among other NFL franchises in NFLPA's inaugural report card

Though the on-field football wasn’t great, the Las Vegas Raiders ranked highly in NFLPA’s franchise report card.

Las Vegas could be a free-agent destination after all.

In the inaugural rendition of the NFL Players Association's end-of-season report cards, the Las Vegas Raiders ranked third overall among all 32 NFL teams in terms of the quality of the franchise. The only teams better than Las Vegas were Minnesota (No. 1) and Miami (No. 2).

The NFLPA graded each team on eight different categories based on surveys from about 1,300 of their players. The categories were the following: treatment of families, food service/nutrition, weight room, strength coaches, training room, training staff, locker room, and team travel.

Receiving not only a passing grade but an excellent report, the Raiders claimed an A+ in the following categories: weight room, strength coaches, locker room, and team travel.

Las Vegas was awarded an A grade for the team training room, an A- in food services, a B+ in training staff, and a B in the treatment of families.

It's clear, NFL players love Las Vegas.

"With their new facilities in place now for nearly 3 years, we heard from multiple players on other teams the request to 'make the facilities more like Vegas.' The workplace is mostly state-of-the-art, and 90% of players believe that club owner Mark Davis is willing to spend money to upgrade the operations if needed, ranking him 20th in this category," the report read

"At this workplace, the lowest-graded category was the coaching staff. Player respondents felt that Head Coach Josh McDaniels is less likely to listen to his players and keeps them for longer hours than other head coaches around the league. Longer hours are not correlated to winning, as seven of the top eight coaches rated as being most efficient with their players' time in the 2022 survey made the playoffs this year."

A glowing grade from the NFLPA will only help the Raiders in an offseason where the franchise is pushing through massive change. Following the dismissal of long-time starting quarterback Derek Carr, the Raiders have courted the idea of trading for Aaron Rodgers. They have also discussed drafting a quarterback if a swing for Rodgers doesn't go according to plan.

And if all else fails, Las Vegas may opt to sign a veteran on the free agent market. What is clear, however, is that coach McDaniels wants a quarterback that will be with the team for a "long time." That may indicate that Las Vegas is leaning toward the draft.

But if Las Vegas does decide to build through free agency, it is clear that players love what the organization has built.
