On Monday, NFL reporter Mike Reiss revealed that the Las Vegas Raiders are meeting with Christian Elliss, a linebacker who played for the New England Patriots last season. He comes from a football family—his dad, Luther Elliss, played for the Detroit Lions, and three of his brothers are also in the NFL.

The Raiders have lost Robert Spillane to the New England Patriots and Divine Deablo to the Atlanta Falcons. They replaced Spillane with Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Elandon Roberts. Now, they have to fill the other position. Elliss could be that player.

Elliss was raised in Colorado, where he shone at Valor Christian High School, capping his senior year by sharing co-defensive Player of the Year honors. He took his talents to the University of Idaho, anchoring the linebacker position and racking up 266 tackles over his college career, a performance that earned him first-team All-Big Sky recognition.

Going undrafted in 2021, Elliss signed with the Minnesota Vikings but couldn’t secure a lasting spot. He then landed on the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice squad before joining their active roster in 2022, where he contributed primarily on special teams, logging 16 tackles across 18 games.

In December 2023, the New England Patriots claimed him off waivers. His 2024 season marked a breakout, as he started five games for New England, tallying 80 tackles, 1.5 sacks, an interception, and a forced fumble. Standing at 6’2” and 231 pounds, Elliss combines size and speed on the field.

On Wednesday, the Raiders signed Elliss to an offer sheet. Now, the Patriots have a chance to match it. However, they only have till Monday to match it. And, that's a tough deadline for the Patriots, because they really like Elliss and they really are going to miss what he did for them last season. However, the Raiders' price they submitted may be too much for New England to take the bait, for all we know.
