The Las Vegas Raiders had a player talk about the hard-hitting stuff when it came time for his turn to talk to the media.
In American professional sports, you don't hear athletes talk about mental health as much as you would think. Players talk about mental health and its importance, but not many players tell you if they are struggling with it.
It's beyond important. For the Raiders, their offensive tackle Jermaine Eluemunor opened up about his mental health a bit. He told the media that he had struggled with it before because of football, social media, and just life in general.
"Going back home and seeing my friends and my family, I got to see some guys I went to school with 14 years ago, and that definitely hit differently because it showed me how far I've come and how far I have left to go," Eluemunor said when asked about his mental health this offseason. "And it just made me want to be successful in this sport even more so I can bring it back over there on a bigger platform.
"That's a huge thing for me mentally because that's one thing I'm really passionate about, and I feel like in this game, you can get stressed about the little things, and if you don't find something to help somewhat relieve your stress, then it will just consume you. And going back to England was one of the things that helped mellow me out and put my mind where it needed to be, given the motivation I needed to this season."
Kids, adults, and anyone you can think of probably have a famous person in their life they look up to or want to be like. They have people that will listen to what they say no matter what it is. Kids, and even adults, anyone can have some mental health problems that they either know about or don't know.
It's important to talk about how you feel, and Eluemunor talking about his feelings and showing that even celebrities, famous people, athletes, etc., can struggle with mental health is important. For all we know, Eluemunor speaking out could have really saved or helped someone.
Not many NFL players will go there when talking about mental health. But it's okay to talk.
Raiders OT Jermaine Eluemunor guarantees he will be apart of one elite duo
If he and the Raiders can somehow pull that off, it would be huge.
