It looks like it could end u being a high reward, as Jones has already had one of the plays of the season and was even the highest-graded player at his position last week and the highest-graded Raiders player.
The highlight reel he had was absolutely amazing, as he snagged an interception with one hand. Defensive coordinator Patrick Graham shared his thoughts on the play and what he compared it to.
I probably watched it four to six times. And did I think he had it in him? Yeah. I mean, good player. He studied the tape, and, again, we go back to that four by one; I'll let somebody else tell that story. But the four by one is something that we've seen from that coordinator since his time at Dallas, and they put Zeke (Ezekiel Elliot) out at one, or it was just different things. We've seen that play, and we talked about that play. And I think he did a good job of reading it and trusting his instincts, but did I think he had it in him? Yes. I mean, he's an instinctual football player, and we try to encourage that as much as possible. Now, the one-handed catch that looked like Michael Jordan kissing the rim (dunk)? That's what I saw. When I kept rewinding it, it made me think of how he caught it; it was like MJ on the kiss-the-rim dunk. I'm probably just talking, I'm old, but like, that's what it reminded me of, and I said that that would be a really cool poster, just like the kiss the rim (dunk) poster was pretty cool.
I can see it, too. The play was amazing, and his play has been great, too. They needed cornerback help a lot with the way the unit has played. They released Marcus Peters, rookie Jakorian Bennett wasn't playing great, and Nate Hobbs was very banged up.
Suddenly, Jones looks like he has CB1 potential, and the instincts on that play only prove that statement even further. If he can continue to do what he has been doing during his short time with the team, he will be a huge steal off the wire.
