Las Vegas Raiders tight end Darren Waller always says what's on his mind. He gets his point across. Fans love him for that. His latest comments are sure to stir the pot just a bit.
That statement seems to point to some malpractice from Jon Gruden and co. on the past coaching staff. Waller should be a vital piece to a red zone offense no matter what team he plays for in the NFL. If the staff did not value his presence inside the twenty, that's a bad look. His size/speed combination can be lethal at that part of the field.
Stats back up his comments, too. Waller only had two touchdowns for the Raiders last season. If he got more opportunities in the red zone, that number would have definitely been higher. He is in the upper echelon of tight ends in the league. They averaged 6+ TDs.
In 2020, Waller did have nine touchdowns. That's a very solid number, but the offensive staff could have gone away from him a bit inside the red zone last season for whatever reason. Regardless, it will be interesting to see his numbers inside that part of the field this season with a new coaching staff.
