The Las Vegas Raiders officially made a decision this week that some expected.
They decided to bench quarterback Derek Carr. The choice makes sense financially for the Raiders.
They have said that it is also to play a younger option at QB in Jarrett Stidham, but that's just coach speak. In reality, it is a sign that they will move on from Carr after the season. He will probably be released or traded. Only time will tell.
Regardless, Carr made an intriguing decision today.
He asked the team if it was alright if he stepped away from it while he was benched for these final couple of weeks. The team obliged.
For Carr, he knows what is likely to come soon.
The QB has poured his heart into the Raiders since he became the team's starter. his determination and commitment for the Raiders has never been doubted. Even then, it seems like the team is ready to transition.
The move is a bit surprising considering their moves on offense in the past year. They locked up Darren Waller long term, and they dint extend Josh Jacobs.
The biggest move was trading for Carr's buddy, though. That would be Davante Adams. Now, the Raiders' star wide receiver may not have the QB he expected going forward.
Carr understands why the Raiders are doing what they are at this point.
This is the smartest move for his future, too. Risking an injury in these final two games would be pointless. He won't prove anything on tape that another team hasn't seen already.
Furthermore, he is allowing the backup quarterbacks to truly lead the team to end the season.
Carr has been a stand-up person in his Raiders' career. This is another sign of that as his career in Las Vegas winds down.
