The Las Vegas Raiders have a starter, and a former second-round pick, that could very well lose his job if the 2023 offseason doesn't go his way.

Tre'von Moehrig was a guy the Raiders thought would help bolster their defense and become a guy that would help them not have to worry about the secondary for a while. Instead, we have done nothing but worry about the secondary, and he has been a huge reason why.

Coming out of Texas in high school Moehrig was a four-star recruit and the 18th-ranked cornerback in his class, per 247 Sports. At TCU, he was recruited as a safety and played the position for three seasons in Fort Worth, Texas. Naturally, he played the position well, as he finished his college career with seven total interceptions and 21 pass deflections.

Moehrig was a highly anticipated player coming into the 2021 NFL Draft. He was a guy that was slotted by a few to go in the first round, but obviously slid to the Raiders in the second. Since then, it hasn't been well, and he could likely be losing his job this season going into his third year.

Las Vegas Raiders: S Tre’von Moehrig The 2021 second-round pick is a holdover from the Jon Gruden/Mike Mayock regime which has yet to live up to expectations. After managing just one interception, 11 pass deflections, and 110 combined tackles in two seasons, Moehrig very well could need a highly productive offseason to remain employed. –Mike Jones, The Athletic

This offseason is huge for him. While OTAs are only voluntary, I'd imagine he is a guy that will be there. He needs to show that he can be better and that he has improved. This defense desperately needs a guy on the back end with Marcus Epps holding it down at the safety positions.

I'd be watching for him in OTAs when they kick off May 22 on Monday. Pay attention to who he is getting his reps in with the most, and see if the coaching staff tries him at cornerback, since he played it in high school, it is possible that they do that.

If he doesn't perform well in OTAs or in mandatory minicamps, I wouldn't be shocked if towards the beginning of the season, he doesn't have his starting job anymore.

There are guys on the roster who could make a push for that starting free safety position. Roderic Teamer, or even Isaiah Pola-Mao, who is the nephew of Pro Football Hall of Famer Troy Polamalu, one of the greatest safeties of all time. Even Christopher Smith, the rookie from Georgia could make a push for the spot depending on how camp goes.

Moehrig has some teammates gunning for his position, and it could happen. I'm sure the coaching staff isn't incredibly happy with the way he has started his career, so some changes better happen, quickly.
