The Raiders haven't had a good secondary in, well, I can't tell you how long, because that's how long it's been. It seems like every year they are the worst or one of the worst when it comes to that specific area of the defense, which is a touchy subject for Raiders fans considering some of the all-time history the Raiders have in the defensive backfield.

This year will likely not be any different, as the secondary is looking to be, well, bad. They didn't do a whole lot to fix it, besides bringing in a few free agents and a rookie cornerback with blazing speed.

Nate Hobbs is good, and probably the second-best defensive player on the team, but he needs some help. However, one of the Raiders' newest players feels a bit different about the secondary heading into the 2023 season.

"I feel pretty good about it," safety Marcus Epps told the media. "The best thing so far that I've seen is we're young, but it's a group of hungry guys. Guys that are putting the work in each day, getting extra work in. So, I feel pretty good about everybody's skill set that we have in there. So, the biggest thing is just continuing to learn each other, continue to learn how each other plays out there on the field. So that, as I said, we can make sure that we're communicating well, feeling each other out, and always on the same page back there."

He may be the only person, outside of others within the team, that feels that way about the secondary. The fans, media, and anyone else you can think of, all feel the exact opposite, as they should too. The secondary finished as the 29th ranked last season in terms of passing yards allowed per game.

Adding Marcus Epps, who is a fine player, Duke Shelley, Jakorian Bennett, and a few others aren't going to fix their biggest issue on that side of the ball. They will be better than last year in my opinion, but that isn't tough to beat.

But, he is supposed to say that. He is supposed to feel confident in his team, especially considering what he was brought there to do. Hopefully, we do see improvements in that area.
