The Las Vegas Raiders were a playoff team in 2021, and lost, barely, to the team that would go on to the Super Bowl, so let's not forget that.
They have basically the same roster but add some of the best players in the league at their respected positions, and they somehow get worse, and that is what the talk has been about so far this year.
Why was that team 10-7, and this team is 2-7? Why is there just a big discrepancy between the two seasons when nothing changed but the coaches?
“It's hard," Carr said when asked about the difference. "You've got to think about schematically; the schemes are different, right? So, you're taking different players, putting them in different schemes. We had to get new players for certain schemes and things like that. As much as we want to compare, there's a lot of carryover because these coaches thought we could fit their schemes, right?
"From leaders and things like that. And we play well for them and we're doing those things better. But some of the key role-players and things like that, it's different. And so, this is just a different team. We have the same attitude. We have the same mindset. We're just trying to make it all come together right now."
Yeah, that makes sense. The schemes are completely different, but here is my thing.
You had a whole offseason, training camp, preseason, and now nine games to figure out the scheme. Not only that, but the crazy thing to me is this team has no identity.
Toward the beginning of the year, we thought it would be to run the ball down opponents' throats as Josh Jacobs was dismantling teams left and right. However, it looks to be far from that.
They aren't a defensive team, by any means, so we can cancel that out. Their best player Davante Adams for some reason can't get the ball when it matters most, and always starts games very strong, so I wouldn't say it's the passing game either.
This whole season has been weird, and I'm sure most fans are ready for it to just be over already. Heck, I'm sure most of the players are ready for it to be over.
If you ask me, there are deeper issues than what Carr is referencing. They have had plenty of time to figure that stuff out. But it's too late now.
