The Las Vegas Raiders ended up going defense like most of us thought they should. There were so many rumors throughout the whole pre-draft process that they would possibly go with a quarterback, but all three of their favorite options were gone by pick four.
So, they picked the Texas Tech defensive end and edge rusher, Tyree Wilson. It's a pick that will help bolster their defense, a group that needs a tremendous amount of help. They still need help there, but this definitely helps set them up for the future.
The defense already has two guys at Wilson's position, but it won't hurt that they are getting a guy to eventually replace Chandler Jones, who was underwhelming last season.
Right after the draft, he spoke about the one issue that everyone has with the Raiders drafting him – his health with a somewhat serious injury.
"Yes, I expect to be ready by training camp," Wilson told reporters via Zoom directly after walking across the stage. "You know, it's, it's up to, you know, the staff at the Raiders to see, you know, what percent I am. I feel great, you know, I'm just, you know, trying to be as best as possible on the field."
That has to feel good for some of the Raiders fans and media to hear, as a lot of people were worried about him in that aspect. Per NFL.com, Wilson had a procedure to remove hardware from his surgically repaired foot.
It doesn't sound like it's anything too serious, and the Raiders obviously weren't too worried about it. This guy can be extremely good and has the chance to be the future of this defense. Now we get to sit back and watch his career unfold.
