Edge rusher Tyree Wilson, the seventh overall selection by the Las Vegas Raiders, has a better-than-average chance at winning the Defensive Rookie of the Year award, according to the sports books.

Wilson, who is a massive 6-foot-6 and 271 pounds, posted 109 total tackles, 29 tackles for losses, and 15.5 sacks in his two years with Texas Tech. What he possesses is a rare blend of the size of speed that could make him a problem at the NFL level.

So naturally, many sports books believe Wilson will have a good rookie season. He currently has the third-highest odds of winning the DROY award, according to VegasInsider.com.

FanDuel, BetMGM, Caesar’s, PointsBet, and DraftKings all list Wilson between +650 and +900 odds to win the award. Ahead of him on those lists are Will Anderson Jr. and Jalen Carter.

It is shocking to see Wilson ranked so highly because one complicating factor in his rookie season production will be Maxx Crosby and Chandler Jones.

The two are the veterans of the defensive line. And with Jones returning healthy, he will be taking a large amount of the snaps, even though Wilson was drafted to be Jones' replacement.

Still, if Wilson gets on the field, he has the talent and skill to be productive. And if anyone asks the oddsmakers, that is enough to place him in the top three for the DROY award.
