The Las Vegas Raiders landed a stud with the seventh pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, and fans might end up loving this pick.

Tyree Wilson was great in college as he comes into this draft as one of the best pure pass rushers. He will look to fill in behind Chandler Jones, as Jones is getting older and his play is getting worse. Wilson will be the perfect guy to replace him and even play some this year. Who knows, we could see him starting sometime this next year.

The Raiders are getting a guy that they can make the edge three to start the year, where he will be brought in on passing downs, and then over the course of the year have a different role possibly. It's even better that he will be learning from Crosby and possibly Jones, two guys who have been at the top of this league before when it comes to defense.

Height: 6' foot 6"

Weight: 271 pounds

40-yard dash: 4.82 seconds

What he does well

Here's what A to Z Sports' Tyler Browning says about his pass rush plan:

Uses basketball-style hesitation moves to throw off the offensive tackle in the initial part of his rush. Has the bull rush, rip, swim, long arm, cross chop as well as a few counters. Not sure he knows when to use the moves to maximize the rush, but the toolbox is a good starting point.

Where he can improve

The Athletic's Dane Brugler had this to say about some of Wilson's shortcomings:

Comes off the ball upright, tall and late … can be washed or moved off his spot by doubles and his run defense lack consistency … guilty of false stepping or overcommitting his balance out in front, giving blockers the chance to snatch/pull him … not a loose pass rusher who will bend the edge versus NFL offensive tackles … pass-rush sequencing needs continued coaching … struggles to find passing lanes at the line of scrimmage (zero career batted passes is a surprising number for a player with his length) … suffered a season-ending right foot injury (November 2022) as a senior and underwent surgery (including a screw being inserted), which sidelined him for the Senior Bowl and scouting combine.

Where he fits in

Tyree Wilson will be a guy that can play right away, if healthy, but definitely could still use some developing. Luckily he will be behind two guys that have done the whole [ass rush thing at the highest level. The Raiders needed defense and they got their guy.
