You have likely heard Las Vegas Raiders head coach Pete Carroll talk extensively about being in win-now mode. They think they can compete in 2025, and hey, that's not a bad mindset to have. And even if they thought they were going to be a bad team, he certainly wouldn't broadcast that to everyone. But in order to be a competitive team, and in order to compete for the postseason, they have to get a quarterback.

You cannot play in the AFC West and think you're going to win the division against teams like the Kansas City Chiefs with Patrick Mahomes and the Los Angeles Chargers with Justin Herbert. And, you could even throw Bo Nix on the Denver Broncos in that conversation after having an impressive rookie season. And you especially can't think you'll win it with Gardner Minshew and Aidan O'Connell as your QBs.

Luckily for them, there are a few free agency options where they could grab a veteran QB if they wanted to. There is also the draft, where they could take a guy if he's there at No. 6, or even trade up or back. And then there's the option of trading — the Raiders have already been linked to Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford. They allowed him to seek a trade in hopes of finding a better contract with his new team.

And, the reports have stated that the Raiders are very interested.

But, according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Rams have seen who is interested in Stafford, and are now going to be trying to drive the asking price up on Stafford. And, this is smart by them, kind of.

They are going to try to get whatever they can for him. They should try to do that. But, they are also the team that is going to have to deal with a disgruntled Stafford who wants $50 million a year, if no one trades for him.

So, there's a ton of wrinkles to this all, and now it's just about what the Raiders, who desperately need a QB, want to give up. If the asking price becomes the No. 6 overall pick, the Raiders may just say no and hang up the phone. But, we don't really know how new GM John Spytek operates, yet.
