A lot of people don't care about the NFL until the actual season kicks off in week one.

However, for a sacred group of sickos the real season starts with the Hall of Fame Game.

Week one of the NFL preseason came to a close, and it gave us our first chance to see the 2023 rookies in action.

Trevor Sikkema of Pro Football Focus recently ranked the rookie QBs and their performances in week one of the pre-season. A name not many might have expected came out with the top spot.

If you're a Raiders fan, you have to be happy here, Aidan O'Connell would come home with the first spot.

Trevor would have this to say about O'Connell's performance

O’Connell’s Raiders debut was reminiscent of his 2021 season at Purdue, when he earned an elite passing grade. The fourth-round pick in last April’s draft finished his first game in the pros 15-of-18 passing (with two drops, 94.4% adjusted completion percentage) with 141 passing yards and two big-time throws. The performance earned him a 90.8 passing grade on the day, by far the highest mark for any rookie quarterback. We’re hoping to see him against some first-team defenses at some point before the regular season begins.

No. 1 overall pick, Bryce Young, only played 11 snaps and those included seven dropbacks. CJ Stroud only played 12 snaps, with seven dropbacks; and it wasn't the prettiest of showings. Anthony Richardson was the only QB who had an argument to claim the top spot, but he threw an interception in his first outing.

O'Connell is currently in a battle for QB2 on the Raiders depth chart with long time veteran Brian Hoyer.

If O'Connell strings together a couple more outings like his performance in week one, he just might lock down the backup job.
