The Las Vegas Raiders have officially entered the contender stage, where every move they make is magnified because of what is expected of them during the season. To a lot of people, this team can win the Super Bowl this year. To some, it will still take two or three more.
The Chiefs, Broncos, and Chargers will all also be competing for a Super Bowl in 2022, so the pressure is rising.
There are a few people on this roster that have a ton of pressure on them, but some more than others. This guy has the most pressure on him, and for good reasons.
Raiders' star has the most pressure put on him
Davante Adams has pressure on him to continue being the best receiver in the game. He has pressure on him because people feel like he was the missing piece to a playoff team.
Derek Carr has a ton of pressure on him because of the connection he and Adams have. Not to mention all the hype that has been surrounding the two former Fresno State Bulldogs.
The pressure is rising for Chandler Jones, who wanted out of Arizona. He also wants to prove to people that he still has a ton left.
While all of those guys, and more, have a ton of pressure to perform, none have more on their shoulders than Darren Waller.
Let's just put together everything that has happened this offseason and training camp to Waller.
First, in the offseason, we heard about Waller wanting a contract extension, which is fine. He definitely deserves more money than what he is currently getting paid.
Then, training camp and preseason began, and Waller was almost nowhere to be found. Well, he was actually. Instead of being at the preseason game against the Vikings, Waller was at a Las Vegas Aces game.
Was he holding out? That was never confirmed, but it definitely seems like it.
Then, Waller fired his agent because the contract negotiations were going nowhere. Finally, he signed with Rosenhaus and is currently working on a deal to become the highest-paid tight end in the league at $16 million a year.
Here is why he has so much pressure on him, though.
Waller can't go out there in Week 1, if he's playing that is, and be bad offensively after missing as much as he has. If he's bad, there is no justification for him missing time.
Waller is going to try and prove that he is worth the money he is asking for. That is a lot of money, and after having a somewhat down year last season as compared to the year before, Waller needs to step his game up, or he won't hear the end of it.
There is a lot riding on this season from a lot of different players. However, no one has more to prove than Waller.
