The Las Vegas Raiders and their drama regarding star tight end Darren Waller is hopefully over soon. Although, if I were him, I'm upset right now.
So we know what has been going on with Waller and the drama surrounding the Raiders. Waller wants an extension, as he should. He has been a top-three tight end the last few years now and is definitely not getting paid like it.
Waller has missed training camp. He has even skipped preseason games to go watch the Las Vegas Aces play. Apparently, he isn't holding out, he is nursing a hamstring injury, but call it what you want, it seems like he is holding out.
Because the contract negotiations didn't go anywhere, Waller fired his management team at Klutch Sports, and rightfully so.
It was announced on Tuesday that Waller signed with Drew Rosenhaus, one of the best agents in the business. Not only that, but they have plans to make Waller the highest-paid tight end in the game.
Here is why I would be upset if I were him, though.
The Denver Broncos just extended Russell Wilson to a five-year deal worth $49 million a year. That's a lot of money. Now, Waller shouldn't be mad because of how much Wilson is getting paid. he is a quarterback, and honestly, he plays like a $245 million quarterback.
However, this is where it gets iffy.
Wilson hasn't played a single snap for the Broncos yet, and they throw that money at him. Waller has played for the Raiders for five years now, and for some reason can't seem to get his extension done.
I know I already said it, but if I were him, I'm livid.
The Raiders need to get a deal done with Waller soon. If they don't, he could finally just get fed up and want to be traded or leave in the offseason. That, is exactly the opposite of what they want, too.
This should show them that they are the side being ridiculous throughout these talks. If I'm the Raiders, I'm giving Waller whatever he wants.
He is a talent like no other in the league. He is a receiver in a tight end's body, which is something that doesn't come around much. If they don't lock him down, someone else will gladly pay him.
