The offense was terrible and had trouble moving the ball at times, especially on the ground. The passing game was stagnant, too, among many other things that kept the Raiders from winning. Of course, the defense falls in that category, too.
Here are three of the most responsible players from their loss against the Steelers:
Raiders' losers
Jimmy Garoppolo, QB – The Raiders spent big money on Garoppolo this offseason, but not to do what we saw on Sunday Night Football. Sure, it wasn't all on him, as the offensive line didn't give him a ton of time in the pocket, but he needs some blame as well.
He had 324 passing yards and two touchdowns, but he also had three interceptions, which isn't a good recipe for success. The Raiders are counting on him to run McDaniels' system. Derek Carr couldn't, and it looks like Jimmy G can't either.
Tyree Wilson, DE – It's somewhat unfair to have a rookie on here who missed most of the offseason workouts, dealt with a foot injury, and even was thrust into a position he wasn't supposed to be in this early because of the Chandler Jones situation. But he needs to play better.
Wilson's get-off has been slow, like, very slow. He has had issues with his pass-rush moves and isn't really creating any pressure or plays. Wilson has to be better, or the conversation will start to get dark about him being drafted where he was.
Offensive line – No one person is here to blame because they were all pretty bad. Jermaine Eluemunor wasn't great after he had a strong start to the season overall. And Miller and James were the effect of Garoppolo getting hit as well.
They allowed T.J. Watt, one of the best defensive players in the league, to have two sacks. Garoppolo was folded in half, backward, hit helmet to helmet, and pushed around in the pocket. They definitely did not do their jobs.
