The Las Vegas Raiders faced off against an AFC West rival in the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday Night Football. But, before the game, a ton of attention was on minority owner Tom Brady. First, he announced that he’ll be playing flag football. Then, the ESPN broadcast let everyone know just how much he was involved with the Raiders.

According to James Palmer, Brady and offensive coordinator Chip Kelly apparently go over film together two to three times a week.

“And every weekend Brady is calling a game for Fox, gathering as much information as possible from players and coaches from both teams to be at his best in the broadcast booth. Got it,” Palmer tweeted.

This is a team that obviously has a chance to be good, and certainly much better than last year. Now, all the attention is on the Raiders and Brady, and that’s the last thing this team wants or needs.

Raiders lose home opener with Brady in coaches’ box

During the broadcast, they showed Brady in the coaches’ box with all of the coordinators and coaches who elect to sit in the box rather than be on the sideline. That’s not something we have ever seen from play-by-play or color analyst broadcasters.

And the fact that everyone saw that, and the report was made about Brady on national television, means that coaches probably won’t be talking to Brady anymore when he does their games on TV. And, to make things even more interesting, Brady calls the Chicago Bears game next week, one week before the Raiders play the Chicago Bears in Week 4.

After the game, Pete Carroll let everyone know that the report just isn’t true.

“That’s not accurate. That’s not accurate,” Carroll told reporters. “We have conversations. I talk to Tom regularly, and Chip [Kelly] talks to Tom regularly. We have a tremendous asset. We all get along well and respect each other, so we all talk about life, football, or whatever. He has great insight. So, we are lucky to have him as an owner.”

If Tom was doing that, it obviously didn’t work against the Chargers. The Raiders, in a way, looked like the same old Raiders we saw last year – elite defense at times, with a terrible offense. The offense had plenty of chances to score and either tie the game or take the lead if you add up all of the chances. But they blew it.

The good thing is that their next four games are extremely winnable, and yes, even the one against the Washington Commanders, where Jayden Daniels is pretty banged up at the moment. Carroll will get his team ready for Sunday.
