Aaron Donald’s time on the field in the NFL might not be over just yet. The former Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle hinted about a possible comeback, but it all depends on what happens with Dallas Cowboys star Micah Parsons.
If the Cowboys are ultimately forced or willing to trade Parsons, one possible option could be the Rams. And if that were to happen, the future Hall of Famer might have to consider making a return.
“If Micah Parsons goes to the Rams, I might have to call 210ths and get in football shape,” Donald wrote on Instagram. “That d-line would be unreal.”
That prompted a response from Parsons.
“Man!!! Don’t tell me info like that!!,” he wrote.
Across his 10-year career, Donald finished with 542 total tackles, 111 sacks, 24 forced fumbles, and seven fumble recoveries. Meanwhile, Parsons has 256 total tackles, 52.5 sacks, nine forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries across his four seasons.
Tough negotiations
Parsons recently requested a trade from the Cowboys after contract negotiations had stalled between both sides, and the edge defender has not been participating in training camp. He announced the news on social media, writing ‘I no longer want to be here.’
Things just keep getting worse, with Jerry Jones admitting he hasn’t spoken to Parsons since he requested a trade—and even more so, the owner is not confident he will play in the season opener on Sept. 4 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
“No absolutely not,” Jones told reporters. “A big part of it is his decision.”
Aaron Donald is 34 and played for the Rams from 2014 through 2023. Coming back after only one season out of the league wouldn’t be anything crazy, especially for a talent like that. The defensive tackle was the Defensive Player of the Year three times, a First-Team All-Pro eight times, and a Pro Bowler 10 times. He made the All-2010s All-Decade Team.
Micah Parsons, drafted in 2021, has been a Pro Bowler in each of his first four NFL seasons, and also a First-Team All-Pro twice and Second-Team All-Pro once.
The Rams’ defensive front already has players like Jared Verse, Byron Young, Kobie Turner, Braden Fiske, and Poona Ford. Add Parsons and Donald, and good luck to the rest of the NFL—and to the Rams’ salary cap, which would have to fit Parsons as the highest-paid non-quarterback in league history.
