The ties between the Los Angeles Rams and the Detroit Lions run deep.

Detroit is Matthew Stafford's old stomping grounds, and the Rams are the first team to give Lions starting quarterback Jared Goff a chance.

So, it comes as no surprise that ahead of Sunday's game, the two teams are trading comments with each other. Recently, Rams star Aaron Donald had an interesting conversation with Goff, where all Donald could say to his former quarterback was how proud of him he remains.

“We had a good relationship,” Donald said. “We were cool, proud of what he’d been accomplishing. Reached out to him and told him: I’m proud of him. So I feel like we have a good relationship."

Emotions are going to run high in Sunday's game. But that doesn't mean Donald and Goff will be at each other's throats.

Donald knows Goff is a good quarterback when not facing pressure. The goal of Donald Sunday will be to bring the pressure that can make life difficult for Goff. However, knowing that didn't deter Donald from letting Goff know that Sunday's contest would be familiar fun.

“He was here, helped us do some great things, and then to go to Detroit, help build that back to where they’re at the day and all the success they’ve been having definitely this season," Donald said. "[I and] Just proud of him. Just wanted to let him know that and that was about it.”

Kickoff in the Rams-Lions NFL Wild Card round game is set for 8 p.m. ET.
