Former Los Angeles Rams Super Bowl champion joins coaching staff with promotion that shouldn’t surprise anyone
The Rams bring a familiar face home to LA.
Back in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Los Angeles Rams were fresh off of Sean McVay’s first season at the helm and were still reeling from the loss of draft capital. However, general manager Les Snead wheeled and dealed his way into 11 selections in the 2018 NFL Draft, with their first being Michigan State center Brian Allen.
Allen went on to make 32 starts for the Rams, including being the starting center for the team’s Super Bowl-winning 2021 season. Now, he enters his second career act in Los Angeles, officially joining the Rams’ staff as assistant offensive line coach.
Los Angeles Rams make shrewd promotion with Brian Allen
When the Rams drafted Allen, Les Snead called him “a fun guy to watch. But other than that a really good technician, a very smart, great guy.” Allen made a career out of playing like a “savvy vet” up front, and helped the Rams reach the Super Bowl in 2021.
He’ll now take over assisting Ryan Wendell with the offensive line. Keen-eyed fans will have noticed that Allen has been on the Rams’ coaching staff for this season. However, he was previously listed as just an offensive assistant. Now, he has a formal position room.
It’s unclear what this means for Zak Kromer, the son of longtime NFL legendary offensive line coach Aaron Kromer. Zak currently sits as the Rams’ assistant offensive line coach, and has been on staff in Los Angeles for 10 years. However, the Rams are gearing up to shift the staff around tremendously, so he might simply be getting a new title.
Regardless, this is an outstanding promotion for a former Ram who gave everything he had for the team. The offensive line will no doubt benefit from his contributions to the team for the foreseeable future, and I’m excited for Allen.
