It isn't a secret that the Los Angeles Rams have to think about a Matthew Stafford succession plan.
That may mean looking at the 2024 NFL Draft or looking toward the free agency and trade market.
Steve Young, a Hall of Fame quarterback, recently went on The Adam Schefter Podcast and named Zach Wilson of the New York Jets a prime trade target for the Los Angeles Rams.
“To me, the place he needs to be is in L.A.,” Young said. “Go with Sean McVay, follow [Matthew] Stafford, and just sit there and watch the magic and see if you can pick it up. If you can, then you can be one of the best because you have the talent for it. But he has to get to one of those spots.”
Wilson's time in New York hasn't been great. In three seasons, he has appeared in 34 games, starting 33 of them. In that time, Wilson has amassed 6,293 yards, 23 touchdowns and 25 interceptions.
During his time, Wilson has lost far more games than he has won. He holds a 12-21 record.
The New York Jets are likely to opt out of Wilson's fifth-year option. That makes him a likely trade candidate for the 2024 season. To add, he could be a player in desperate need of a change of scenery. The Rams could be that.
The remaining question is if the Rams would be willing to take on Wilson.
McVay can rebuild several players' careers. However, Wilson would be a massive undertaking. Time will tell if the Rams elect to pull the trigger on the idea.
