Jared Verse was always going to be the villain of the piece for the Los Angeles Rams'  Divisional Round clash with the Philadelphia Eagles.

And the Defensive Rookie of the Year frontrunner is clearly perfectly comfortable with that role.

Edge rusher Jared Verse ensured his status as a primary target for a raucous Eagles crowd with comments he made about the fanbase in the lead up to the game.

"I hate Eagles fans,” Verse told Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times this week. "They’re so annoying. I hate Eagles fans.”

His comments stemmed from boos he received from some Eagles fans during the Rams' Week 12 meeting with the Eagles at SoFi Stadium.

"I didn't even do nothing to 'em," Verse added. "It was my first time playing. Oh, I hate Eagles fans…. When I see that green and white, I hate it. I actually get upset. Like I actually genuinely get hot."

But Verse seemed calm as he took a stroll around Lincoln Financial Field ahead of the rematch, cupping his ear to the crowd as boos rained down on him.

Verse then had a seemingly very unfriendly interaction with Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter, but appeared undeterred by Carter taking exception to his actions.

Obviously, Verse and Carter will not go face to face on the field. However, Verse's words have clearly and predictably drawn the ire of the Philadelphia fans and the players, raising the tension and making an already enticing encounter that much more mouthwatering.
