Kyren Williams could be better than MVP candidate and San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey.

And no, that isn't crazy to say.

Williams, in 10 games, outpaces McCaffrey in yards per game with 95.6 to the 49ers' lead rusher's 92.3. The two are in a league of their own in that category. The next closes rusher, in terms of yards per game, is David Montgomery, with 77.7.

Williams has burst on the seen in his second season.

After struggling through a seldom-used first season in the league, where he only received 35 carries, the Rams have changed their approach with the running back.

Now, Williams has received nearly six times more carries, and it has produced 953 rushing yards.

He has also been a critical contributor to the pass-catching game. Williams has 30 catches with 192 yards and three touchdowns.

Where Williams doesn't hold up in comparison to McCaffrey is total yards from the line of scrimmage. The 49ers running back leads the league with 1,801 yards.

Williams sits at 13th with 1,145 yards. But he has played four fewer games than McCaffrey, who has appeared in 14 contests.

The Rams' running back represents the future of the position. Gone are the days of the single-use downhill runner. Each running back has to be a contributor in multiple facets of the game. Really, Williams is a running back made in the image of McCaffrey, who broke the mold when he first entered the NFL.

But, in yards per game, Williams is already better than McCaffrey. And it could indicate that when it is all said and done, the Rams may have the best running back in the league at some point.

Williams will have another opportunity to prove himself against the New Orleans Saints.

New Orleans ranks in the bottom half of the league in rushing yards allowed. The Saints also sit in the bottom half of the league in yards allowed per carry.

With a formidable Saints defense not as aggressive against the run as it used to be, the Rams' breakout player can show the NFL world he could be better than an NFL MVP candidate.
