The void left on the defensive line with the retirement of Aaron Donald is going to take a lot for the Rams to fill, but there's no question they've taken full advantage of the 2024 NFL Draft to do so.
Of the five selections the Rams have made in the draft four of them have been on the defensive side of the ball and three of them have particularly been on the defensive line, with Florida State defensive tackle Braden Fiske expected to immediately take the direct place of Donald.
The team used its most recent fifth-round pick at No. 154 overall to select Washington State edge rusher Brennan Jackson, the second edge rusher they've taken in this draft. The Rams also used their first-round pick at No. 19 overall to take Seminoles edge rusher Jared Verse.
The 6-foot-4, 264-pound Jackson led the Cougars defense in 2023 with 12.5 tackles for loss and 8 sacks, also posting 57 total tackles, 3 pass breakups, 1 forced fumble and 4 fumble recoveries en route to securing Second-Team All-Pac 12 honors.
From a scouting perspective, Jackson has impressed with his level of explosiveness, ability to get off blocks and ability to get off the ball. There have, though, been some questions surrounding his average athleticism and lackluster speed.
It will be interesting to see what he's able to accomplish in Los Angeles after he finished out his college career with 161 combined tackles (74 solo), 35 tackles for loss, 20.5 sacks and 1 interception.
Here's a look at who the Rams have selected to this point in the draft:
Round 1, No. 19: Florida State EDGE Jared Verse
Round 2, No. 39: Florida State DT Braden Fiske
Round 3, No. 83: Michigan RB Blake Corum
Round 3, No. 99: Miami S Kamren Kichens
Round 5, No. 154: Washington State EDGE Brennan Jackson
