ESPN released their latest 7-round mock draft for the 2025 NFL Draft. For the Los Angeles Rams, this 7-round haul was a…curious haul of players that doesn't provide a lot of hope for the future.
For a team that seems like they want to be aggressive building around Matthew Stafford for one final Super Bowl run, they didn't solve a lot of their most pressing needs and walked out of the haul with few of their holes patched up.
Round 1, Pick 26: Jaxson Dart, QB, Ole Miss
"After waiting to see whether Matthew Stafford would return for another season, it's time for the Rams to prepare for their post-Stafford future at quarterback. Dart could go as high as the top 10 depending on how the QB board settles early in the draft. He's an accurate thrower on intermediate routes with underrated ability to layer the deep ball downfield. He's also experienced, starting the past three seasons at Ole Miss after transferring from USC. Dart got better every season under Lane Kiffin and has the eyes and arm to make plays on time and to every area of the field. Dart will need time to acclimate to the NFL, as Kiffin's RPO-heavy scheme limited his reads and progressions, but he can sit and learn behind Stafford in 2025. The Rams don't have a second-round pick, so this would be the time to aggressively pursue their QB of the future."
This pick feels like a head-scratcher to me. In my opinion, there's nothing in Dart's profile worth investing in this early on in the draft. Just because he( and I use this term loosely) plays quarterback doesn't mean the Rams should reach for one here that doesn't fit their scheme.
Round 3, Pick 90: Caleb Ransaw, DB, Tulane
"Ransaw is one of my favorite players in this class — a fast, aggressive outside cornerback who could even kick to safety if needed."
Ransaw being dubbed an outside cornerback is curious with just six snaps outside in 2024 and 7 in 2023, but based on my own evaluation, he's a player that should move to safety, a position that the Rams are fairly secure at with Kam Kinchens, Kam Curl, and Quentin Lake rotating there. They could deploy Ransaw deep with Kinchens and drop Lake into the slot, but that's a very niche spot for a top-100 pick, especially one that feels like a major reach.
Round 3, Pick 101: Demetrius Knight, LB, South Carolina
"Knight is a playmaker who could be a potential rookie starter in the Rams' base 3-4 defense."
Knight would start immediately, giving an impact similar to one the Rams got out of another recent pick at linebacker out of South Carolina. I would be surprised if he was still on the board here and doubly so if the Rams actually put a high pick into linebacker, but this would be a nice pickup for LA.
Round 4, Pick 127: Dominic Lovett, WR, Georgia
Lovett is a fine addition in a vacuum, but I'm not sure what he really adds to the Rams as a slim slot-only receiver who plays mostly close to the line of scrimmage and works after the catch. Given some of the other wide receivers on the board in players like Dont'e Thornton, Jaylin Lane, Isaac TeSlaa, Chimere Dike, Pat Bryant, and Tai Felton, it's a bit of a letdown here.
Round 6, Pick 190: Ollie Gordon II, RB, Oklahoma State
The Rams need more explosiveness out of their running back room, not less. Gordon is just a worse version of Kyren Williams and Blake Corum, and his vision isn't a great fit in McVay's offense.
Round 6, Pick 195: Que Robinson, EDGE, Alabama
I would be stunned if Robinson is remotely available at this pick, but this would be the best pick of the draft so far. He'd be a high-upside EDGE3 with some much-needed juice to spell Jared Verse and Byron Young.
Round 6, Pick 201: Jake Briningstool, TE, Clemson
Much like Robinson, I'd be surprised if Briningstool would be on the board here this late, but this would be another solid pickup. He'd immediately push for snaps over Colby Parkinson and Davis Allen and would vie for the starting role to replace Tyler Higbee in 2026.
Round 6, Pick 202: Warren Brinson, DT, Georgia
The Rams need to improve their depth on the defensive line behind Kobie Turner and Braden Fiske, so Brinson does make some sense. He'd be at his best one-gapping, which isn't a seamless fit in the Rams' defense, but he can rotate in on subpackages.
